still going oriental. Now, if you think Black Sesame was a weird flavour of ice cream, behold this, the Wasabi flavoured ice cream may just blow you away. Now, whoever came up with this idea was a genius *salute*
Wasabi or known as Japanese horseradish, its roots is used as a spice and has an extreme srong flavour (not your average spice) Well, I gues I don’t need to elaborate much on what Wasabi is with so much of international exposure everywhere on Japanese Food. Wasabi is no stranger to us. It’s a must food when eating sushi as it burns your tongue and searing pain up your sinuses. So if your nose is blocked, try eating wasabi (HAha, just my own theory
Try at own risk)

In the above picture, the Wasabi Ice cream (green) was paired with black sesame Ice cream that I made the day before, then served on a martini glass with vanilla flavoured waffle and pouring cream *eeee. how sinful* But it was worth the sin *wink*
Wasabi Ice Cream Recipe (Makes 1.2L)
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups cream
2/3 cup caster sugar
8 egg yolks
1 tbsp wasabi paste
green colouring
Reserve some milk (about 1/2 cup) Pour in the rest of milk with cream in a pan over medium heat. In another bowl, whisk sugar, egg yolks, remaining milk and wasabi paste (Can add more if you want, but, be reasonable
). When the milk and cream has come to the boil, lower the heat and pour in the egg yolks mixture and stir continuously for about 5-10 minutes. When the mixture is right, it should coat the back of the spoon and slightly thick but not curdled. Remove into anoter bowl and add green colouring. Chill in fridge for half day. Then make ice cream according to manufacturer’s instruction or transfer to a shallow metal tray and freeze, whisking every couple of hours until frozen and creamy. Freeze 5 hours or overnight. Soften in fridge for 30 mins before serving.

This recipe is slightly creamier for me. So, maybe next time I would use more milk than cream, but still keep to 3 cups of liquid.

Awesome, I love that I’m not the only person crazy enough to enjoy this — although I did have quite a bit more wasabi in mine! http://tobemrsmarv.com/2007/10/10/wasabi-ice-cream/

[...] are you sure that was wasabi ice cream, and not green tea ice cream? green tea ice cream is quite common in asia. I’ve never heard of wasabi ice cream though. I’ve had the green tea ice cream, it’s pretty good. Yep it was definitely wasabi (there was green tea ice cream as well)! I can’t imagine that it would taste very nice. :X I just found a recipe on how to make it: Project Iced 2: Wasabi Ice Cream A Self-proclaimed Foodaholic [...]
