SeLAh

I know, I’ve been back 2 1/2 weeks, I still have yet to finish my posts about Sydney. We went to this restaurant called SeLAh in Circular Quay sorta for a farewell dinner kinda thing.

The ambience of the restaurant was really good despite its size. It was warm and cosy inside. The tables were set at a reasonable distance apart which is good because you dont wanna hear the conversation next table, or shout in your table because they’re too loud!

Sourdough with olive oil and balsamic $3. The bread was well, ok (If u’d read long enough, you’d know I’m not a fan of bread, at all)

We read in a review somewhere that says the Spicy Salt and Pepper Squid ($22) served with chilli soy is a must, and therefore, it’s a must!!S&P Squid is a norm thing in yum cha places but I say, this one is so so so good. I dont often eat squid because of their rubbery texture if it’s overcooked. But this one was just perfect. Tender and still springy (like, good fishballs, chinese wouuld understand, hey?) However it wasn’t spicy at all!!

Next we opted for the Gorgonzola and caramelized onions ravioli with celeriac puree, sicilian olives and peppers ($22). This is the size for main. The waitress was very good indeed. We had 6 people there on the table and we were going to share our entrees, so she ‘upgraded’ out raviolis from 5 pieces to 6 so we could all have one each! I mean, as far as I know, most people dont do that (but hey, how much would a onion ravioli cost right ??) Anyways, this was fantastic!! The texture of the filling was quite interesting. By looking at the description “caramelized onion, I wouuld think, ok, I may get strings of onions in the ravioli. But no, they’re were rather mashed up with the cheese and there were minimal odour of onion. Yummmyy..

Speaking of which, the service was really good although there were only say 3 floor staffs. Man, they offered to help us take photos!! Hellooo !!! who does that ?!?!?! and she didnt even offer just once, she asked us before the meal and during the meal, or was it after the meal. But dude, we had 3 cameras with us. -___-”

For the mains, this was the Slow Roast Lamb Rump with Cannellini beans, thyme and Tomato Ragu, salsa verde ($28). The lamb was cooked to pinkiness and it wasn’t too chewy, like how overcooked lamb tends to stay in your mouth for the next tens of seconds and later it ends up on the plate because you can’t swallow ‘em (that’s me, actually). The sauce was great to go with the lamb.. The cannellini beans was, well, to me, it kinda tasted like canned bolognesse sauce. Don’t ask me how I can come up with such tastings but yeah. I’m not so muuch of a bean fan. But if it was served with something else, I’d definitely order this.  (that is if I ever go back to Sydney)

Then, here we have the King Island Scotch Fillet with Potato & Leek Pie, roasted vine ripened tomatoes ($29) The tomatoes were juicy that once you bite, the juices just splat out. Hahaha. The potato and leek pie was abit dry and huge!! But serving the pie was a different idea than having the normal mashed potatos or roasted potatoes, you know that kinda thingy. The fillet was at medium rare and it was pretty damn good. I’m no pro at eating beef but it was acceptable.. u know. Haha

We try to keep our orders as different as possible so we could try everything. They had 7 mains on the menu that night and we chose 4 of em, which was pretty good I think. This is (forgotten what fish) with fennel puree, chervil tomato, eschalot & muscatel salsa ($29). I quite fancied the fennel puree and the salsa at the side. I didnt try much of the fish cause, well, you know, my friend is too thin and I don’t wanna eat so much of her food. Hahahaha. But being the picky eater she is, her comment was pretty good

I ordered the Carnaroli Risotto with duck, forest mushrooms, grana padano & truffle oil ($24). I dont know if it’s I’m lazy to eat or what, but eating risotto is SO easy!! I’m just kidding, how can I be lazy to eat. Anyways, I can’t quite remember much about my dish!! But it was not so cheesy, risotto was cooked well. but the duck was slightly hard / overcooked. Otherwise the mushrooms were good (I love all types of mushrooms)

Portion wise, it was quite reasonably big and filling (I think) but not to the extend where 1 dish can fit 2 diners, you know what I mean. Service was good. Ambience was good. Company was good. Food was great. and we had 2 Ent. cards! So, what else could u want more???

Maybe some wine? heheh

*honestly, I feel like killing photobucket right now!!*
